I am a choreographer, performer, dance filmmaker, and educator.
My work for stage and film is rich in detail and rigor, with breathable space for improvisational choices within the choreographic inter-logic. This enables collaborators to contribute to the work their own ideas, experiences, and self-expression. In these terms, I value what artists offer throughout the creative process, and utilize these contributions in the collaborative formation of my pieces. I find that by emphasizing the artistic liberty of others, this process produces work that remains fluid and represents a broader range of voices, in turn, offering audiences a wider invitation to form their own connection to the work.
As an educator I believe in the power of dance, its creative possibilities, and the sense of community that blossoms across connections. My overarching goals as an educator are to promote proactivity, creative expression, and collaboration within a culturally relevant learning environment. I am thoughtfully committed to the rigor of this form, ever curious about what is currently relevant in the field, and dedicated to expanding my approach in engaging student identity into the learning experience.
